The Adoption Process

The adoption process can often be confusing and frustrating. Sunray Fertility offers support, knowledge, assistance, and most importantly, personalized attention, to make this process easier.

What Does the Adoption Process Entail?

STEP 1: ADOPTION CONFERENCE
We connect with you to understand exactly what you are looking for regarding adoption as the birth mother or the adoptive parents, and discuss the cost of adoption. We will also help coordinate a home study.

STEP 2: MATCHING
Once we find a match between the adoptive parents and the birth mother, we facilitate a meeting so that you can get to know each other and see if you are a good match.

STEP 3: BUDGET
Once we establish a match, we create a budget between the adoptive parents and the birth mom to ensure a healthy, happy pregnancy for all involved.

STEP 4: BIRTH OF THE BABY
This is an exciting but nerve-racking time. You will get to bring the baby home with you. After the birth of the baby, we will draft all court documents necessary to finalize the adoption.

Are there different types of Adoptions? Yes!

There is domestic or international adoption. Questions also arise regarding whether to adopt a baby or an older child. Further, there are differences between private adoptions (like through an agency or lawyer) and then going through the foster care system. Lastly, there are different forms of communication styles for adoptions, like open, semi-open, or closed. In other words, how much communication would you want the birth mom to have with the child and yourself, as the adoptive parents.

FAQs

We are here to answer all your questions, but here are a few common ones we receive:

Do I have to commit to adoption right away? No. We encourage you to first explore all your options before making a commitment to an adoption plan.

Should I keep the baby? Only you can know what is the best decision for you, but we are here to provide you with all the resources you need to make the right decision for you.

Is this cheaper than surrogacy? Yes, adoption is cheaper than surrogacy, but just because it is cheaper, it doesn't always mean that it is the right option for you. Talk to us about your budget, so we can figure out the best solution for you.

What about the baby’s father? Does he need to know? The baby’s father has rights that need to be terminated before any adoption can be finalized, and under certain circumstances, this can be done without his consent. It’s important to work with an adoption professional familiar with the birth father's rights that can help to protect you, your baby, the adopting family and the birth father.

How far into the pregnancy can I decide to give my baby up for adoption? You can make an adoption plan at any time during or after your pregnancy. However, the earlier in your pregnancy you begin and if you choose adoption—the more time you will have to locate a family and reflect on your choice.
